Welcome to the Pocket Houses

Stay in one of our two quirky self-contained guesthouses. Set in our private central city garden, the recently completed pair of hand-crafted tiny houses are a whimsical labour of love, tucked away at the back of our garden, amongst the trees and plants.

The pocket houses benefit from private bathrooms, kitchenette, double bed, smart TV and wi-fi. A memorable and convenient base to visit the city’s attractions and discover the vibrancy and diversity of Christchurch.

Your stay

Nestled in the heart of an established inner-city neighbourhood, the pocket houses are hidden gems in a bustling and ever-changing urban landscape. Set within a re-emerging and exciting Christchurch that blends historic buildings with new construction, vibrant street art and a connection to nature, the tiny houses exude a unique charm that set it apart from typical accommodation. Be captivated by their handcrafted design, modern comforts and convenient neighbourhood setting.

  • Kitchen & Dining

The living spaces, although compact, are light and airy, with a vaulted ceiling topped with an opening skylight and large round windows. The spaces have been designed with comfort and convenience in mind. Equipped with a double bed, a small fold out table for dining and a small but well-appointed kitchenette which features a microwave, sink, refrigerator, toaster and all the necessary cutlery and utensils for your stay.  The pocket houses are also equipped with wall mounted smart TVs, heating and high-speed internet.

    Bathroom

Each pocket house has its own modern bathroom with a walk-in shower and ample hot water. We supply you with fresh towels at the beginning of your stay and the bathrooms are stocked with NZ made Ecostore toiletries.

    Car Parking

Parking on site is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. The car park space is suitable for  standard sized vehicles only. We will endeavour to accommodate you, however, there is also free on street parking nearby.

Front Pocket

Situated in the middle of our property, behind our home and away from the street. The bright and airy tiny house is surrounded by planting, and has a westerly outlook into the middle of the garden. Compact in design and approximately 18sqm, there is an additional reading and relaxation nook on the mezzanine space above the bathroom. This pocket house is accessed via steps to the front door and has a small seating area out front.

Back Pocket

Nestled at the back of the property, the tiny house has a small porthole window to the north and its main outlook the west, into a densely planted part of the garden with its own seating area. Slightly larger than front pocket, the space is approximately 22sqm, owing to the larger bathroom with accessibility features. This pocket house also has an additional mezzanine space above the bathroom that is accessed via a ladder and can be used as a hang out space at your leisure. A gentle ramp provides level access from the street to its front door.

Meet your hosts

We are central city dwellers and live in a 120 year old villa (just in front of the studios) with our two children and dog. We've lived in Christchurch for ten years and have loved watching the city evolve. We love travelling, particularly exploring new cultures and cuisines. We bought our house with a vision of creating an inner-city sanctuary in our garden for likeminded travellers while we pursue the dream of renovating our villa.
